Front Garage Homes
Grab those groceries from the trunk, walk up a half set of stairs et voila you’ve arrived in your mudroom or even better (if you’re in a higher-end home) your kitchen, because you also happen to have a walk-through pantry to the room that houses your fridge.
Front-attached-garage homes are wildly popular, not just in Calgary, but in Okotoks and Chestermere especially (where they remain a little bit more affordable than their big-city counterparts).
In 2021/2022 as a result of the pandemic, homeowners demanded more space and freedom, and the supply of these homes evaporated. They did become more expensive. We saw gains in outlying communities (for example Cochrane), as well as older (Shawnessy) and newer (Mahogany, McKenzie Towne) neighborhoods within Calgary itself. This could bode well in the long term for people who choose this housing type.
A comprehensive list of homes with front-attached homes in the Calgary area follows. Most of them are double (two-car garages) in size. But we also find triples and singles. They may be insulated, and heated, with workbenches, high doors, high ceilings, car lifts, and automatic garage door-openers!
